The socio-political role of Christian Roma scholarship colleges

This study explores the socio-political role of Christian Roma scholarship colleges through the case of the Evangelical Roma Scholarship College (ERSZK). Utilizing interview excerpts from students, parents, and professionals, the research reveals how the community experiences and interprets the social support and integration functions embedded in college life. The analysis identifies five key dimensions of the college’s socio-political impact: psycho-social aspects (motivation, communal socialization, faith, social capital), educational support (learning strategies and skill development), financial aid (scholarships), role and personality development, and multiplication effects (mentoring and community role-modeling). The findings demonstrate that Christian Roma colleges contribute not only to individual academic progress but also act as complex, lateral socio-political instruments fostering equality of opportunity and inclusion for marginalized Roma youth.
