Portrait of Pál Keresztúri Bíró by Miklós Bethlen, Chancellor and Memoirist

The study analyzes one of the gems of early modern Transylvanian memoir literature, a work well known in literary history, the autobiography of Miklós Bethlen, chancellor of Transylvania, from the perspective of what image the 17th-century Transylvanian Reformed nobility had of the Reformed pastors they knew. Of the pastors known to Miklós Bethlen and mentioned in the text. I have chosen to present the portrait of Pál Bíró of Keresztúr, focusing not only on the analysis of the description but also on the relationship between the two men.
