This study examines the Book of Job through the lens of theatrical characterization. It adopts the premise that a specific, delimited portion of the text may be read metaphorically as a tragedy. Rather than attempting a formal genre classification, it explores how dramatic analysis facilitates a more nuanced understanding of Job’s emotional and intellectual journey. The character’s arc of development is analysed primarily through dialogues, reactions, and the evolution of tension. The study provides insight into aspects of a character-building methodology applicable to pastoral care and pedagogy. Ultimately, this essay seeks to explore how a dramatic approach can help us view the human dimension of biblical characters – Job in particular – with fresh eyes, and what practical possibilities this approach offers.
